Had guests (Linda and Sarah) and went up to Sonoma on Tuesday (yes, a day off from work was snuck in). Anyway, went to Bodega Bay’s headlands, very cool surf. S&L are big-time birders, so they spent the time watching the skies, I found the Ocean fascinating. Then we had a quick lunch (zero thumbs up for the Tides Wharf Restaurant out of three reviewers), and off for drinking, I mean wine tasting.
First stop at Iron Horse – I like their BdeB, and the view from the place is great. The still wines were underwhelming.
Then De Loach, where we liked the chocolate best. My, don’t we sound snooty.
Matanzas Creek has some nicely laid out gardens, and the best non-wine giftshop of the tour (bought a cool plasticized wine map). They seemed to focus on reds, which I dont drink, so I was mostly out of the picture, liking their “porch wine” best.
Mayo Family was fun, and I even bought their sparkling untasted, once I’ve opened it we’ll learn just how impaired my judgment was by then.
Finally Cline, at 15 min before their 6pm closing. They were friendly and oddly I really liked their low end white, a Pinot Grigio/Chardonnay blend.
Then stumbled home to go out again at Cha Cha Cha for dinner (and, um sangria, lushes that we are).
